I absolutely hate the bland allover red TfL scheme. I'm a traditionalist, but alas, modern bus designs seem to make sure that my favorite blend of modern and traditional, the nice grey skirted white roof of London United, is unfeasible. But there is a way, I think.

Make the whole lower deck to the cantrail, all red. This copes with awkward light clusters etc. Break this huge expense up with giant and gloriously elaborate fleetnames, on all four sides. Think GeneraL era.

Everything above that should be a mix of white and light grey, in horizontal bands, ideally four, ending in a thin white roof. This could be adjusted to suit various designs, dropping a band or even two, while retaining the family feel of the livery.

On single deckers, end the red below the windows and use only one strip each of white and grey. Not ideal, but better better than all red with a white roof.

Break this all up with some nice clean horizontal gold, silver or black thin lines maybe, at the white/grey boundaries and one or two on the red, and I think you have a very nice livery to brighten the day of Londoners.
