1A couple of new ones for me last weekend at Ribble:
01558 (yes, it's a former NR registered shunter with a TOPS id which was based at Manchester Trafford Park)
Railbus 79960

Also had my first three Italian diesels this week during a non railway holiday to Venice - the diesel hauled train being conveniently timed as the way of getting from the hotel to the island each morning! I also had 3 FS electrics in the opposite direction.

Coming perilously close to 'classing' the 96TS (only recording halves as full sets for reasons stated earlier) - only sets 28 (055/056) and 40 (079/080) to go.

The 1996 stock don't run in permanent pairs; they get re-matched frequently. Very few are currently in their original pairings...

Probably a bit late for this year but perhaps someone can start two separate threads next year.

Maybe also a third thread for photographic progress...?

Now... You're going to hate me here!

This is all Paris area stuff, so if you are only interested in UK numbers please skip to the next post.

Disruption at Kings Cross yesterday morning created an interesting (albeit, tedious) alternative route from London to York via Sheffield.
Quite a comprehensive set of 'achievements' resulted from that journey:
First journey recorded on class 221 (I've been on Voyagers before but only 220s)
New unit travelled - 221131
First journey recorded on class 222
New unit travelled - 222008
New unit travelled - C69 stock unit 54

Longest distance travelled while standing involuntarily - 220 miles (Of course, due to everybody doing the same).

I have to say, I can see what people mean about the toilet smell on Voyagers now, not nice is it? This wasn't a problem on the 222 I note. Also, feel free to request me start a separate thread for this, but what is the source of the noise in the vestibules on voyagers/meridians? It sounds like an air-activated system engaging/disengaging periodically, but with a continuous pitch noise that follows, almost like a fan/pump of some kind. Couldn't figure out what it'd be at the time.

Likely to be the banks for the brakes on top of the roof, all the energy used for braking is released as heat from these banks.

Possibly, but there was no real pattern to how long it went on for. Sometimes it would switch on/off multiple times a second for a few seconds, other times it'd be on for a few seconds then stay off, other times it'd be on for a minute or so at a time.

There was a separate noise audible when braking on the 222 which I did not hear on the 221, a consistent high pitched whine that disappeared when braking stopped.

Anyway, don't want to derail this thread too much :)

Extending on from my previous post, had a fairly large set this week:

1996 TS 'original' unit 28 on 11th October - now only missing unit 40
(Started recording 96TS before I realised they weren't kept in original pairs, wasn't willing to lose original data)

As mentioned in an earlier post - these two:
221131 - 12th October
222008 - 12th October

Then return journey
220027 - 14th October
222022 - 14th October
S7 unit 30 (21359/21360) - 14th October

And later this week:
S7 unit 19 (21337/21338) - 15th October - new sighting & travel
S7 unit 33 (21365/21366) - 16th October - new sighting & travel
450114 - 18th October
159104 - 18th October
Waterloo & City line unit 06 - 18th October
321317 - 18th October

Can automatically tick 321317 and 450114 off for 20 miles, and 159104 for 50 miles. Over the course of the week I now also have four of the 96TS 'sets' over 10 miles, and six 357s over 20 miles (I won't count 10 as a single journey on one is almost always over 10). Pretty much exactly 700 miles by rail this week (12th-18th) at a total cost of £144.65 - doesn't seem too bad considering no advance tickets were involved and a reasonable amount of TfL travel was involved.

Working in Sheffield yesterday and afterwards scored trams 101, 105 & 117.

Not bad as trams required for service is lower than normal due to engineering works on Halfway/Herdings Park route.

Scored 170208 yesterday after noticing it on the platform at Ipswich departing for Lowestoft. Out to Saxmundham to catch the next one back, only to find that 170272 was deputising.

Completed 170/2s thereby. :)

Another busy week - although it's going to be a near-impossible to task to complete some of these fleets due to their size!

360104 - 21st October (first documented journey, almost certainly done this one before as I used 360/1s home from school every day when they were new)
159020 - 21st October
159001 - 21st October

D78 unit 108 [7108] - 22nd October (Not forgetting 7000, I'd call that unit 0 for simplicity)

159004 - 23rd October
159012 - 23rd October

376030 - 24th October
466019 - 24th October
321331 - 24th October (as per the 360, probably covered this one years back)

465016 - 25th October
465039 - 25th October
465159 - 25th October

03145 and D2578 were scooped in today at the excellent BLS fixture at Moreton Business Park.

The joys of fresh air as well - nothing like standing in a grampus in a howling gale and intermittent rain to clear your sinuses.

As the "shacks" were unnamed on my complimentary map of the site, artistic licence enables me to add Lugg Vale Parkway and Nissen Gronkshed Platform to the list.

Hereford Wetherspoons and Tram 3023 were also scored, for a Roast Beef Dinner and an uncomfortable stagger respectively. And a bonus was 166217 (last one for sight) on a Hereford Paddington service earlier this evening.

No 'red pen' gen this time (well, except I had my penultimate 'Meridian' last week), but just some info for anyone interested, there are a few places left on the PLEG charity trip at St Philips Marsh on November 16th, featuring 08663 and 08822 - more details at http://www.pleg.org.uk/latest_news.html

S7 units:

21349/50
21355/6
21371/2
21373/4

Would have got two more ( 21365/6 and 21375/6 ) but the one under at Stepney Green put paid to that; the former was put into the shed at Hammersmith as the diagrams were thinned out to allow Moorgate turnarounds and the latter was trapped on the wrong side of the incident...

Very pleased with this week's set:

31st October: S7 unit 34 (21367/368) sighted

1st November:
S7 unit 36 (21371/372) sighted (3 days after service entry)
Possible Class 43 travelled - need to get a TOPS request in (unit I recorded I already have)

4th November:
43277 - Travelled for 188 miles - need to get a TOPS request to check rear unit

5th November: S7 unit 31 (21361/362) travelled

6th November:
S7 unit 32 (21363/364) sighted
S7 unit 35 (21369/370) sighted
465026 travelled
465032 travelled

7th November:
321350 travelled
158882 travelled
159017 travelled
Waterloo & City line unit 03 travelled
321363 travelled

8th November:
96TS original unit 40 (96079/080) travelled with 96480 - class cleared :D
378146 travelled

They may not be coupled together any more, but as far as the original fleet is concerned (back when they were), I'm calling the 96TS set complete for that, having started recording them that way. First LUL set I've completed since recording, and probably the only one for a while given that's the only line I commute on (almost) every day.
Making good progress with the S7 sightings due to running alongside the H&C from Barking - West Ham daily, and visiting Farringdon weekly to see a client. Only units I'm missing so far are 14(327/328) as I think it's still on the Met as a +1, and 38(375/376) due to it only having entered service this week (on a day I was away up north no less!). Sighting all the S8s is the best I'll do for a long time as I don't use the Met often now my office is no longer near Aldgate.

In order, I think you mean:

21371/2
21361/2
21363/4
21369/70
21327/8
21375/6

as the 210xx sequence is the S8s.
