So just to clear things up, because im getting moaned at by her indoors, You get your Red Dot Day ticket from East Mids Parkway and you can travel on EMT all day on the same ticket, no matter how many trains you get?

For myself, How do these tickets work with the ticket gates? Has anyone done a Red Dot Day before and used your ticket in the ticket gates? Last thing I want to do is get to St Pancras and the gates to swallow my ticket and have to pay a fortune to get home!

Yep you buy it and you can go anywhere on any train untill 23:59

best thing to do is DONT put it in the machine, show a member of staff on the gate and he/she will let yoou past, I dont think they work in the machine anyways but just show the staff to save on time

Lovely, after actually reading it back again it does read different ways, it mentions 'For one day only we offer unlimited travel from a selected station to anywhere on the network for just £10 (£5 for children).' which could read as unlimited travel anywhere on any train all day, or could read as a journey from East Mids Parkway to any one station on the network.

Looking back at a few messages from the RDD's last year, it states that you had unlimited travel on any train all day.

Madness at East Mids Parkway this morning, glad I decided to nip back to Nottingham to get the train back down to London, currently on the 09.28 from Nottingham and there is not an empty seat to be had!

Didn't seem madness to me at 08.30, busy but all ticket windows open and a lady doing tickets from her portable machine for people paying with cards. Took less than 5 minutes to obtain a ticket, which is less than some stations at normal times! Nice and quiet 222 (103, first run on it with it having been out of use for years) to Nottingham and now en route Norwich for a 90 to London.

Well I meant madness as to the number of people trying to get on the HST we got off of at about 08.40! So far had a run from Langley Mill to East Mids on a HST, on to Nottingham on a 156 and down to London on another HST.

I was under the impression that there was bus for part of the trip to Norwich? Hopefully not for your sake!

Have a good day.

Buses Nottingham-Grantham, but trains are running through from Nottingham to Peterborough via the Syston curve and Melton Mowbray.

Quiet Meridian back up from London, power pint at Derby station and now on a very very dirty 156 to Matlock Bath, the other unit running this route today is a 158, so should get that one back later. Must admit I'm slightly jealous of the diesel hauled Norwich to London service at this point!

I spent the day on HST`s and thanks to the 0938 off EMD arriving 2 early I managed to leg it on over to get the 1115 HST, something ive not been able to make the past 2 RDD`s I did. Had a top class day out on the HST`s thanks to the cold weather for the smokey departures :D

Also for those intrested there was a HST working (what I can only assume was a footex) from Derby-Nottingham at about 1530, lots going on at Derby, one turdostar was 1hr late police helicopers in the air and I was surrounded by Derby County fans bellowing "EURO EURO!" and the Police keeping them in line

Had a couple of tight connections myself, managed a dead connection at Market Harborough (it normally makes if you're coming off St Pancras) followed by a +3 at St P onto the 18.15 north.

Just on my final run home, East Mids to Langley Mill, on the fully refurbished EMT HST.

For my mileage records is there any way anyone can find out which unit ran the 17.18 departure from Derby to Sheffield? I forgot to have a look, and if it helps, it left Sheffield empty, heading south about 15 - 20 minutes after arrival, 5 car Meridian.

So I did just under 420 miles today, it was not a mad bash, gave me and the other half a couple of good breaks for food and beer. Managed to do the following.....

Langley Mill - East Midlands Parkway (HST)
East Midlands Parkway - Nottingham (156)
Nottingham - London St Pancras (HST)
London St Pancras - Derby (Meridian)
Derby - Matlock Bath (156)
Matlock Bath - Derby (158)
Derby - Sheffield (Meridian, STILL NEED THE NUMBER FOR THIS IF ANYONE CAN HELP, PLEASE SEE QUOTE BELOW)
Sheffield - East Midlands Parkway (Meridian)
East Midlands Parkway - Langley Mill (HST)

Great day, how did everyone else get on?

The above service was the 15.25 departure from London St Pancras to Sheffield.
