Recruitment process (Covid)

Hey folks,

I was just wondering if anyone has applied recently (within July/August) and been moved forward on to the next stages of application such as online assessment & online interview? More so in relation to Abellio Scotrail's process?

I've applied for a role and after hearing nothing back for a while except my acknowledgement email, I emailed recruitment, they advised that they are taking government advice about how to proceed with vacancies on a safe basis.

Looking at it, surely if the normal process pre-Covid was online assessment and online interview, would it not make sense to continue that process and whittle down applicants as previous then effectively safe plan around formal interview?

If they don't have an active plan to conduct interviews/training safely then I'm wondering why they had unfilled vacancies out live for applications?

@Stigy Yeah, recently i've been a serial lurker after a peaked interest in the role I applied for. I expected it to be somewhat of a slow process, although I suppose I kind of assumed they would still be progressing applications on the basis of online assessment & online interview more so backed by the live vacancies out.

I meant “waded” by the way, not “waxed”

It certainly is a very slow process, but I think you’ll find things will start to move more freely soon with most TOC/FOCs....at least in terms of getting people back in to assessment centres etc. I guess with a lot of teams working from home, it has slowed things down a lot, but I’d have thought there would be me emphasis on Zoom interviews etc where possible.

I emailed recruitment and was told that they are hoping to get interviews going by the end of next month. So here’s hoping .

The railway is a very slow process anyway for recruitment without Covid19 complicating things.

From my own experience - you could apply for a job in July and not get an update until maybe November. It is what it is. Patience is the key and unfortunately it is a waiting game for many people.

Thank you. To my knowledge, different TOC's have different procedures re interviews and hiring during this pandemic. Hang in there, patience is key unfortunately.

@read.em I also applied at the end of August with Scotrail. Since then I have completed the online situational judgement and was sent an email on Tuesday from recruitment stating I've met the required standard for the next stage of the process (dispatch assessment then interview) and they will be in touch shortly. Other than that it's a waiting game. Where is it you've applied for and what role?

The online tests seem to happen quite quickly. It's when the hiring managers and HR start the sifting of applicants that's when it really slows down though. Good luck though

@Charladenz - I have applied for trainee senior conductor, Leamington Spa, Did you apply through abelio?I have not heard back to see If I passed the online judgement test, I am hoping it is some time soon I am hoping I passed. Welldone for passing! what have you applied for?

@read.em Yeah it was through Abellio that I applied. In fairness from what I've read on here, it does take a while so be prepared to wait, its not a usual career process and can take months rather than weeks.

I've applied for GPR/Train Dispatcher. I'm awaiting a date to complete the TD concentration test then interview (if all goes well) but even then, there's still a long way to go to a prospective start date. Different TOCs might be quicker at recruitment etc, so you can't base your experience on what others have in other parts of the country I would say.

You could always email recruitment and ask when the people who have passed the online assessments would be notified about progressing to the next stage?

I have read it takes a while! I shall keep checking my inbox.

I did email them a week afterwards, as I didnt realise this forum was about and she said 2-3 weeks which has passed, I will just wait it out as it seems to be the norm.
