Recommendations for train journeys around Utrecht

The music group I play in are doing a short tour to Utrecht next month and there's a free half-day in the itinerary. Are there any railway journeys of interest nearby that I should have a look at?

The Railway Museum in Utrecht is worth a visit in my opinion. You can get the hourly train to it from the main station or the bus if timing require it.

The hourly train to the rail museum takes a strange route: out to the NE of Utrecht, then reversing near a complicated junction, and trundling down a line that's now only used for the museum over a series of level crossings.
