Following from the "What are you listening" thread, how about one for people to recommend bands. I'll get things started.

The Baghdaddies
A local band from Newcastle. From their website:
The Baghdaddies pump out an eclectic fusion of rhythms and melodies plucked from around the world that are guaranteed to raise your spirits! Festival favourites, The Baghdaddies play Balkan gypsy with Middle Eastern flavours, shades of klezmer and tango, jazz and reggae plus a touch of ska - all laced with funky dance grooves and blistering eastern brass harmonies.

I think that sums them up quite well, they're great live. I'm one of their top listeners on Last FM too :lol:

How about Eastfield, they play regular in Kettering at Sawyers Pub. Some brilliant songs if i may say so, such as Faredodging!.

I'm gonna go mainstream and say "The Verve"
I thought they were crap first time round, but "Love is Noise" has really got me interested!

Of course as ekr123 has said I would like to recommend my band The Jumpjetz www.thejumpjetz.com and the link Josh posted is videos taken by my wonderful fiancee :)

Otherwise, I - like The Slash - would recommend The Verve (however, i've loved them for years) and Love is Noise is the best thing this year.

For those of you whom want to find out about some slightly less well known artists then i strongly suggest checking out Duke Special - he is a Northern irishman who has an amazing voice, is an excellent musician and is excellent when heard live.
