Recent Disruptions

Hi,

Has there been any recent disruptions that have caused massive amounts of delays?

Anything within the last three years will be fine.

I have mapped delays onto a map for my research but in order to best visualise how delays spread. I need a day or two where there was disruption.

The midland main line has some disruption on Saturday. There were some problems for about 3 days in the Thameslink core recently.

To be fair, Liverpool - Birmingham was dreadful under London Midland too. Lost count of the times I’d have to wait at Crewe for 60mins+ due to cancellations at weekends, and for a significant amount of time there was no service on Sundays as well. I can't speak for weekends but as I'm commuted...

05:35 I can see a few delays. Fast forwarding to 8:30 and it looks crazy with the amount of delays. 12pm looks worst still with hours worth of delays.

I can see delays spread at around 5:20am and at around 7am-10am it got worse. The delay then spread out in all of the surrounding area.

I believe it did start quite early in the morning on the first day so 0520 might be about right. I think one morning there were some delays of over an hour northbound.

There was a train at 5:50 that was 48 minutes late. at 06:50 there was a train 93 minutes late (that was due at 05:18). A quick glance indicates that the 93 min train caused other trains to be delayed.

Beware that the propagation of delays following major incidents has occurred in a rather different manner since March 23rd than it did beforehand. In these last 6 months, major incidents have caused a lot less delay than previously.

A few off the top of my head. Friday 2nd March 2018 (beast from the East), particularly at TOCs in London & South East. 18th December 2019 (Victoria signal failure)

I couldn't see that delay but I could see the delay mentioned in the topic about signalling issues at Cheadle Hulme on the 17th Sept.

.... which was not fixed until Sunday 20th. with normal services not resuming until Monday 21st., which you can see from the details in the thread quoted.

There was a freight derailment at Llangennech on August 12th and the Heart of Wales Line suffered flooding and track washed away at Llanygnllo on August 8th and due to extent of damage to infrastructure not expected to be open in 2020. The Conwy Valley line re-opened last week after 8 months closure due to flood damage.
