Some questions about receipts.

When I buy at the station get a credit card slip which says "Sales - see receipt". However they don't normally give me a receipt. Today when I asked for one it says: 1BS (SMA) Leeds. - London Terminals 096XX 08/06/11. "096XX" is the ticket number but what does 1BA (SMA) mean?

When I collect at a fastticket machine I get a "collection receipt" on orange ticket stock but it does not itemise the journeys and contains the date of collection but not the date of the journey. Is the only receipt available for this the email they send me?

I'm guessing this is for a journey to St Pancras via the midland main line? 1BS is the ticket type code, which is a type of Advance 1st used by East Midlands Trains. SMA is the fare setter code used in the fares database for advance fares set by EMT. I don't know what it stands for; maybe somebody more familiar with historic names of TOCs and British Rail sectors might have an idea. SMR is the code for non-advance fares set by EMT, if that is anything of a clue...

I confess I have never read the receipts I've given out, but 1BS is probably a ticket type (First class Advance Single??). Not sure about (SMA) though. My first thought was fare setter but I'd have thought EC would be the fare setter for Leeds-London.

SMA maybe Stagecoach Midlands Advance?

Sounds about right! According to Wikipedia, the company trading as East Midlands Trains was originally known as Stagecoach Midland Rail Ltd., so I think that must be it.
