I was interested to see the local rag mentioning that Castleford Bus Station is FINALLY getting a new build!

http://www.wymetro.com/news/Rebuilding_Castleford_s_Bus_Station/

Project work to begin on Sunday 26 January.

2013-02-04-Castleford Bus Station 2Phase 1 of Metro and Wakefield Council’s project to provide Castleford with a brand new bus station begins in late January.

Because the new bus station is being built on the same site, the current bus station will close partially from Sunday 26 January, with most buses using temporary stops and shelters. Most of them will be on nearby Albion Street, Bank Street and Station Road. Until Phase 2 of the project in the spring, Coaches and five bus services will continue to operate from part of the existing bus station.

Leaflets and posters have been produced to show people where to catch buses during the closure (pdf 579K new window). Metro will have staff on hand to point passengers to their correct stops.

I remember a few years ago when the rail and bus interchange was proposed but never went ahead, oh well a new bus station is a much needed step!

It's practically right next door to it anyway !

I must admit, the current bus station isn't a particularly nice place to wait. If the new one's anything like the bus stations in Leeds and Wakefield, it will me a massive improvement.
