Reason for cancellation

Being the nosey old git I am, I was just wondering if anyone knew the reason the 16:33 Crewe to Stafford didn't run today. My son was boarding it at Longport so I was watching it on opentraintimes map. According to that it had the Ready To Start, it had a green light, it had the route set to Radway Green. But never left. It then changed to the train two hours later (the units next booked trip) And I just wondered what went wrong at the last minute.

Real Time Trains shows it as cancelled due to train operators request. The train was still there in platform 3 when I left after 5pm.

Yeah. It formed the 18.33. But it was clearly a last minute cancellation as it had the green light but didn't actually leave!

indeed,
although I have seen something similar at Cardiff, where the TRTS was activated, signal cleared, platform despatcher gives OK to guard, Guard closes doors and gives 2 bells to driver and nothing.
Shame nobody checked there was a driver - although to me the fact that the engines were not running would have been a giveaway

I think LNWR have pretty much given up. They don't seem bothered about running any trains in the slightest
