Who else has spotted that the new Realtime Trains App is now available on the App Store?

the new Realtime Trains App is now available on the App Store
Thanks for letting us know. It seems to only be on the literal App Store (for Apple iPhone) though, as I can't seem to find an Android version in the Google Play Store.

@Tom, is an Android version planned? Also, what features does the app have in addition to the website? If anything, it seems like the app might have fewer features than the website (though I suppose more could be added over time?)

I don't know how accurate or correct this is (especially as the description does mention a detailed mode), but fin_woah left a 1-star review on the iPhone app's App Store page, "3 days ago" (so around Sat 16/5/26) which seems a bit harsh, but apparently is due to lots of "missing features":

many missing features from web version
lots and lots of missing features from the web version, don't even bother getting it if you want a "detailed" version... can't click on stations the train doesn't stop at, can't search or click on junctions and other locations, i could go on, don't even bother unless you literally just want a timetable app like every other one on the app store

Of course, I do appreciate the work that will have gone into just developing the initial release of the app.

@tfw756rider

There is an android version of the app
Thanks for letting us know.

From what I can find, the Android version was released (in resurrected form) on the 5/5/26 (compared to the 12/5/26 for the iPhone version),

but I had to search on the Google Play Store website for the Android version, whereas the App Store page for the iPhone version just showed up on the Google search engine).

As you have the Android app installed, I assume that you've tried it? If so, what has your experience of it been so far? Does it have any benefit / features over just using the mobile website, or does it have "a load of missing features"?

I'll probably install it myself today anyway and try it out.

The app is free I can't see what's worth complaining about given tom paid money to build it and upload it
I'm on android and it has some features that the website doesn't have like favourite trains and searches.

Hopefully more features will come with time, such as add to railmiles

Is there a headcode/unit number search feature on the app? I can't find it. I assume some things are yet to be brought over and that may be one of them.

I can't find a headcode / unit number search either.

Another limitation I have run into on the Realtime Trains Android app is that even though the "service type" drop-down menu is there ("Passenger calls", "Non-passenger services" etc.), I can't seem to be able to go to "All day" or choose a custom range of times, even in "Detailed' mode.

When I tap the "Now" under "When", it just brings up the Android time selector (to select a different "around" time). There's no drop-down or pop-up menu before it to select "All day" or "custom times".

I frequently use "All day" (and sometimes custom ranges of times) on the website, so if this functionality really is missing from the Android app, I'd appreciate a lot if it was added, as it would make the app a lot more useable.a lot more useable.

I've also noticed an inconsistency in the TOC lists between the website and the app when it comes to Lumo - the website has both Lumo (East Coast) / LD and Lumo (West Coast) / LF, whereas the app just has a singular Lumo / LD.

Yes it’s one of the features that’s still yet to be brought over. Hopefully it will do soon.

By the way, in the TOC selector, Lumo (West Coast) / LF, which was already on the website, has been added to the app.

However, it has been put in an incorrect alphabetical position on the app, between Lumo / LD (which is also named inconsistently with the website where it's Lumo (East Coast) / LD) and Greater Anglia / LE.

Something I'm curious about, but it doesn't bother me enough to raise a ticket on it, is why RTT sometimes doesn't pick up the current working for a unit when searched for, but instead one three or four workings forward?

An example right now, 730 203.

Searching for it right now, at 12.00, shows it as next working 1U39, the 14.45 Euston - Crewe with 730 228.

However, the actual next workings are 2K18, the 13.22 from Milton Keynes to Euston and prior to that 5K18 at 13.01 from Bletchley siding to Milton Keynes.

Searching 730 228 returns the same result - the 14.45, and not the earlier workings that haven't already happened.

I've just checked and without being logged in, both those units are showing 5B18 Bletchley TMD to Bletchley c.s.

I have the paid version of RTT and once logged in it shows all workings for those two units,
including the 'missing' 5K18/2K18, so possibly a restriction on the functionality of the free
version of RTT?

That could be, yes. I hadn't thought of that possibility - although most other searches do come up with current live workings.

Thank you Tom - I had been wondering. It's not a serious one because it's easy enough to work backwards if necessary. :)

I've put it in the bug tracker but send something into support and someone can pick it up while I'm away in the next fortnight testing new RTT things...

Sorry if this has already been mentioned, but I can’t seem to see any Chiltern stock allocations on RTT today. Everything seems to be running so it doesn’t appear to be the result of disruption.

Is that the "hello/com" e-address? I can't actually see anything saying technical support on the website...

Is the app any good?
Yes. It is very good. You can even favourite services on a recurring basis, which I use to check my upcoming railtours.
While I do actually use the app at the moment (Android version), that's due to an issue with my phone that means that it actually runs a lot better than the mobile website.

It's missing some of the features at the moment, including the "all day" and "custom range of times" views, and all of the "Quick Search" features such as searching for unit numbers and headcodes etc. I'm looking forward to them being added.

Yes.

Yes, it’s taken 6 months to get a good initial first release, and I’m quite pleased with them. There are still things that we are going to work on but for 90% of everyone’s needs (and that 10% is probably disproportionately represented here) it is fab.
