RealTimeTrains and platform "G" at Cambridge

I commuted on http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/W60998/2018/05/30 this morning. It was terminated at Cambridge (platform 7) instead of continuing to London.

I'm curious as to why RealTimeTrains is showing it as platform G rather than platform 7. Does anybody know what the "G" means and/or why it appears there instead of 7?

A guess, but it's very possible that they sent the rest of it to Kings Cross (that would normally wait to be coupled to the above at Cambridge) from Platform 1 as usual. There's a 1G15 running into Kings Cross around now that I otherwise can't figure out what it is, and is the right time for it. So the G is presumably because there's one service straddling two platforms, and it got confused (also hence it not being listed as cancelled on RTT).

This actually seems fairly common. If I haven't miscounted then http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/search/advanced/CBG/2018/05/29/0000-2359?stp=WVS&show=all&order=wtt shows 7 trains using platform G yesterday, including some CrossCountry trains which would presumably not be affected by splitting/joining, e.g. http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/C76506/2018/05/29/advanced

The schedule information which RTT is powered from often doesn't include platform numbers, since it is built for planning signalling movements rather than passenger information. In most cases the alternative to a platform number will be nothing, but it's also possible to get a line designation, or something amounting to an instruction. No idea what G would be at Cambridge, although it could mean something like "only signal it to mid-platform", or "the person inputting the data hit the G key and then didn't hit backspace".

Platform T is the Through non-platform line.

Happens when a southbound train (for example) calls at Platform 4, then departs over the scissors crossover (1068 points) onto the Through line to bypass something in Platform 1, which is a second signal berth.

RTT will see that the train occupied Platform "T" last (after it occupied platform 4) and record the train calling there.

Similarly, northbound trains departing from Platform 1 via Platform 4 often are recorded as non-stopping.

Cambridge confuses RTT...

An alternative to 7? G is the 7th letter in the alphabet

Have had a look into both the G and T. Both seem to be coming down the feed from Network Rail in place of 'blanks' within RTTs behind the scenes data. I intend to fill these blanks in RTTs data and this should remove these incorrect indications.
