I am starting to use this interesting site and would appreciate some advice.

Taking my local station, Fenny Stratford as an example i see there are 4 freight services that could potentially run. There are no passenger trains today as it is a bank holiday.

3 are WTT services (Working Time Table), one is a STP (Short Term Planning) path. Of these the 1925 path seems to be the one the RHTT runs in. I haven't seen anything else use that slot.

However my question relates to the other 2 Trains. One is a stone train to and from Benchley RMC. The other is, i assume, an engineers train from Oxenholme to Bedford.

My question is how do i know:

a) What these trains are
b) IF they have run
c) what do the colours represent?

thanks

The Oxenholme to Bedford is running as it reporting realtime updates. With freight you won't know if they are running until they start reporting. I don't fully understand the colours but STP and VAR are normally shown as red.

Black indicates WTT which may or may not run.

Red is for VAR (a VARiation on a WTT schedule) or STP (Short Term Planned- a working not in the WTT that is running additionally.)

Blue is for CAN (CANcelled services- not in the normal sense but on cancelled in advance e.g. a WTT working cancelled due to engineering works.

Hope this helps!

EDIT: Just to add the type that is most likely to be running is a STP followed by VAR/WTT.

You might notice that a couple of your freights have no 'realtime' column, another has a 'realtime' column containing light type figures, and the last (the Oxenholme one) has some heavy type figures where a TRUST report has already gone in. If I had to guess, I'd say the first would be a 'manual call' schedule (are you familiar with what goes on inside the magic box?) which hasn't been called, the second would be a schedule which has been called but not yet departed (with no guarantees that it will, especially if it's been auto-called) and the last, obviously, is one that's already on the move.

Hope that helps, even if only slightly!

thanks - i am disconnected from the matrix - hence the site. ;)

I dont think the stone train ran as i didn't see it or hear with with either the standard issue MKI eyeball or ear

Tomnick is pretty much right. RTT can't tell what is an auto call and what isn't so it makes some guesses (which will be revised in next release) as to what needs 'activating' early.

A schedule can be seen if it has been called on TRUST by looking for the 'Realtime Information' box on the top panel on the right.

Ah, thanks Tom, I didn't know that you couldn't pick up whether a schedule's auto-call or not. I've just done a TSID enquiry for Fenny Stratford, and it's got it bang on with this one - bizarrely, 6B50 (out from Bardon Hill) is manual call (and not called today - you're right, Rich) whereas 6F50 from Bletchley (the back working?) is auto call.

Just as an interesting aside - we've got four trains polluting our line-up on TRUST at the moment, all auto-called but very unlikely to run! See, the real thing's no better...

The determination I use for auto call is whether it's Q (runs as required, for those who don't know) or not - but I'm adding whatever the code is for "runs as required to terminals & yards" in the next release.

Ask on here!:)

b) IF they have run

I answered a similar question few days ago:
http://www.railforums.co.uk/showthread.php?t=81545

RTT is an excellent tool for tracking trains which are already on the move,
but it's not possible to tell in advance which trains will(not) run on any
given day - that's why keeping Freightmaster up to date is so labour
intensive, because I have to constantly check and recheck which of
the several thousand freight paths 'in the system' are used and which
are just spare...

Cheers all.

As i habvent heard the train go past i assume it has been terminated somewhere, perhaps because of the delay in coming of the work site. It looks like the last report was at Nuneaton.

Does the signal man get a free day then? ;)

It ran forward from Nuneaton via Hinckley and Kettering (can RTT pick up the off-route reports generated?) in the end - looks like someone's had an easy day* indeed ;) .

* - is the new signal box open 24/7? That place must drive them up the wall!

Helpfully, there's no consist showing in TRUST - no doubt it's some sort of track machine though (given the 6Uxx headcode and the destination). I shall see what I can find out about the box!

That's the one, thanks. I had a feeling it might be 24hrs, but wasn't sure - it must be a cracking night shift there!!

I just discovered u can view:
  • 1 Day in the Past
  • 7 Months in Advance

So makes it quite far out into the future being able to see the WTT's for May thru to December.

Bear in mind that anything after 3 months (12 weeks) is subject to change, as engineering work etc can still be planned. Tickets tend to be released 12 weeks in advance as that is when the TOCs/NR have a reasonable knowledge of what is going on.

You can view data from up to 20 days ago if you change the date in the URL, provided you have opened a page which contains a working which ran under that UID on the date you require. You can also bookmark pages and access them within 20 days.

Thanks for that info, I often need to access historical data to aid captioning pictures, and that means I can do it more than a day later than the shot was taken :)
