That is the information I by chance found on the new Peak District plusbus ticket.

Would I have to buy a ticket from a station outside the zone in order to buy this ticket or could I use it from my home station Chapel en le Frith inside the zone, to Buxton?

I'm basically trying to find the cheapest way to get Matlock from where I live, Chapel en le Frith. With the 16-25 railcard plusbus costing £4, this could make it cheaper than separate CEF to Buxton return and then a Buxton to Matlock bus ticket.

Any help is appreciated, I may just be confused over nothing...

Plusbus FAQs:

12. Can I use PLUSBUS if my train journey is between two stations that are within the same town (or PTE region)?

Sorry, no. At least one station (the origin or destination station) of your train journey must be located outside the towns PLUSBUS travel zone or metropolitan city region (Greater Manchester; South Yorkshire; West Midlands; West Yorkshire).

Example: If you are travelling by train from Derby station to Reading station and wish to travel by bus in Reading you can buy PLUSBUS for unlimited bus travel in the Reading zone. However, you cannot buy and use a PLUSBUS ticket if your train journey is between two local stations that are within the Reading PLUSBUS travel zone (e.g. Tilehurst and Reading).

Great to see a new ticket making it easier to get to and around the Peaks. I do wonder though why it's only valid with train tickets to one station on the Hope Valley Line. I'd have thought it would make sense to make it available with train tickets to Hope and Bamford stations as well as Hathersage.

Looking at the price though, anyone travelling from Greater Manchester would still be better off using the GM Wayfarer ticket for multi-modal travel.

Great news for those from further afield though. Now, some Peak District buses that are timed to connect with the trains wouldn't go amiss.

Do plusbus tickets actually give details of the rail journey? If not, a Plusbus ticket bought with a ticket from Chapel-en-le-Frith to Buxton would look exactly the same as one bought with a ticket from Stockport to Buxton.

You should only be able to purchase a PlusBus ticket alongside or when in possession of a rail ticket for which PlusBus is a valid add on.

In reality, you can purchase a plusbus ticket (at least, on trainline-based sites) if you travel between a station from which a plusbus ticket is available and one from which that particular plusbus ticket is not available.

Perhaps whoever designed it though you could get plusbus for every station in the area covered by the ticket.
