Really cheap tickets?

Is there anywhere i can get really cheap train tickets? I'm trying to go from London Road (brighton) to Poulton Le Fylde on the 24th of october returning on the 27th but the cheapest i can find is £50+ pounds for trains which get there after 10pm. Not knowing the area that well i'm not that comfortable with arriving at that sort of time. I've tried London Midland and The Train Line.

Anyone knows of anywhere much cheaper?

Any railcards? What is the earliest you can leave? do you mind a longer journey?

Erm i will have a 16-25 railcard. I can leave quite early and a longer journey isn't too bad tbh. If its cheaper

I can't see any advance tickets for the 24th - I'm not sure why at the moment.

Judging by the previous week, it would be cheaper to get an advance ticket to Manchester - there's quite a few available at £15 each way (£10 with railcard discount). A return from Manchester to Poulton is also about this price, so it would be about £30 total - and only a slightly longer journey time, depending on connections.

i'll look into that. Thanks. Most likely less advance becuase its half term or something. Which is a load of bull.

There are probably no advance tickets on the 24 Oct as there is engineering work between Warrington & Wigan and a bus replacement service is operating.

I checked Virgin's website, and there was no mention of works on the 24th.

The National Rail website shows the normal times / connections on the journey planner, you have to click on 'View service bulletins' to find out!

There appear to be no advance tickets available on any Virgin trains that day, at least at the moment. Virgin's Advance Availability calendar also shows that there is availability only up to September 29th, which is obviously wrong.

I think I would describe that as p*ss-poor communication by Virgin!

Strangly tho there are advance tickets from London Midlands website during the week. From split ticketing mind you. Still ads up to around £50 for a return journey, which i suppose isnt too bad.
