Real Banana Vans?

Hi All,

Did real banana vans ever run in the yellow livery as per the Wrenn model?

If so when where these phased out in favour of the bauxite vans with Banana Company stickers?

I only remember them at Barry in bauxite with a prominent yellow circle on the sides.

Apparently the yellow banana vans were real, though I doubt they stayed bright yellow for very long.

I lived in Kingston upon Thames in the early 50's and there was a large Fyffes depot next to the station. I can certainly remember yellow banana vans with the Fyffes logo sitting in the sidings.

According to Wikipedia, which quotes the 2011 Hornby Handbook, apparently so, though it’s vague enough to suggest it wasn’t a member of the same class. I repainted mine and added handrails, omitted from the model from 1983.

The Banana traffic at Barry was Great and conveyed in bauxite painted vans.
