Reading/Wokingham to Farnborough

I've just been looking at the fares/maps for Reading/Wokingham to Farnborough

Reading to Farnborough uses map MW which covers the direct line through Wokingham, Blackwater etc. An off-peak single is £5.50. However, National Rail Enquiries (NRE) offers the route via Basingstoke at the same price. This is not on the maps. Reading to Basingstoke is, but that leaves the gap between Basingstoke to Farnborough (Main)

Is this an error on the map?
An off-peak single to Fleet is £7.30, would you be allowed to purchase the £5.50 ticket and break your journey at Fleet?

Wokingham to Farnborough uses map MW and WW. WW offers the route of Wokingham - Ascot - Ash Vale - Brookwood - Farnborough (Main) and costs £4.30 for an off-peak single. NRE offers this as a route

A Wokingham to Brookwood anytime single is £9.90, would you be allowed to purchase the above ticket and end your journey at Brookwood?

Even a Wokingham to Camberley single is £6.10.

The ticket is to Farnborough Stations.
For the journey Reading to Farnborough Main, the shortest route is via Basingstoke.
I'm unsure if you're allowed to decide that you wish to go to Farnborough Main instead of Farnborough North, but if that is the case (can someone else please clarify), then you can take the shortest route which is via Basingstoke.

The CDS off-Peak day Single from Reading Stations to Farnborough Stations has restriction code W6, which has no restrictions on Break of Journey.

Discussions have taken place on here about this type of thing before. My (and others) view is that you can decide to go to (and ask for a ticket to) whatever station you choose. Hence, if you ask for a ticket to Farnborough Main at Reading and get issued with a ticket to Farnborough Stations you are entitled to travel to the destination requested via any permitted route - in this case the shortest route via Basingstoke. Others disagree and claim you must walk across town but, unless I have missed it, have not provided any documentation or link which supports their argument.

I agree, also it is quite logical that someone who is not aware that there are 2 stations at Farnborough would be looking for the 'main' station or the one closest to the centre of the town. Conversely the apposite could also be true in that they are aware off the existence of the 'north' station but not the other.

Although travelling from fleet you may have difficulty in breaking you journey at Basingstoke for example.
