I have a friend who wishes to travel from Reading to Chilham on Saturday 4th May, returning that evening as far as Chatham and then onto Gatwick Airport on Tuesday 7th May. He doesn't have a railcard of any sort and travel will be off peak.

I've been looking at various permutations and the best I can come up with is a total cost of £47.90 made up of a Farnborough to Chilham Off Peak Return (£44.10) and a Redhill to Gatwick Anytime Single (£3.60)

Travelling out he would start short at Reading, travelling via London Paddington and Canterbury, then on the return he would again go via Canterbury, breaking his journey at Chatham, continuing on the Tuesday to Gatwick, via London Victoria and Redhill, stopping short on the Chilham - Farnborough ticket at Redhill and then transferring to the Redhill to Gatwick single.

I think this is all valid, but would be grateful if anyone could confirm my logic is sound.

Cheers
