Is Reading Station ok for photographing and number collecting , or will they say it is not allowed ?

I've taken many pictures there with no issues - just stay at the ends of the platforms so you're not in the way of anyone or anything and you'll be fine.

Thanks , London end or Country end ?

I've used either end.

Country end you'll get the Cross Country stuff and the loaned C2C units on the Newbury shuttles; London end you'll get the SWR 450s and 458s to and from Waterloo plus the 165s on the Redhill / Gatwick diagrams. Both ends you'll get all the GWR 387s and IETs passing through and be able to see the TfL 345s.
