Reading disruption due to cable theft

Hi guys just a heads up since last night a cable theft near tilehurst station 40yds of cable knicked has resulted in disruption.

anything heading towards oxford,bristol,swansea,crosscountry services and some diversions down and up the b&H lines

Indeed the buggers are, shoot the lot of them or let the fare paying passengers take out their frustrations on these morons!

Anyway, what cabling is used for semaphone signalling? Was this as big a problem in the days before MAS signalling or has it always

In the days before MAS everything was carried on lineside pole routes using exposed copper wire. One of the last pole routes was taken out of service only last year on the Norwich - Ely line. They did attract cable fairies but normally the loss of signalling was a block failure and loss of communication affecting only the two mechanical boxes each side. Quite minor compared with loss of MAS.

Was travelling to Didcot Parkway today for work.

09:30 Pad-Bristol was 20 minutes late at Didcot. (Glad I made this as the Cheltenham train was cancelled)
It appears that a number of XC & the Hereford services were starting/terminating at Didcot & the Cheltenham ones starting at Swindon.

return: 15:53 & 16:16 from Didcot were shown as cancelled - had the choice of the 16:02 "all lamp posts" stopper or wait for the 16:29 HST.
However, a couple of minutes later a HST stopped which wasn't shown on the screens - this took 75 minutes to get to Paddington. (& then circle line to KX being slow)
Journey home took longer than my trip last week to Stockport!
