re: news about barry island railway

Just thought i let people know, that i have received a press release from the barry island railway company about their future.

All of the stock at barry island is either being sold to other railways or is transfering with the barry island group to the Garrw valley railway based at Pontycymmer, near Tondu, south wales.

1 dmu will be used on service when the garw valley railway is opened at the end of theis year if everything goes to plan.

when it does open i reconmed a visit as it is set in an atractive valley & open countryside.

not sure what is happening to the mainline loco, i think they might be staying there.

cambrain raiwlays has proposed to open the barry island railway 4 1 day per year.

Sorry if I'm missing something, when you say all stock...is that everything?? Is the Barry Island line closing or something?

Aparantly all of the stock has got to be moved. i believe most are going to other railways such as the Gloucester & warekshire railway.

the class 108 at barry is being moved to Pontycymmer for use when the line is opened at the end of this year.

i believe that cambrian railways ltd plan to open the railway at barry island on a few select days per year. i belive that the class 47 is going to stay an dthe 08 but i think the rest are going.

Indeed the 108 will be coming with us but as for loco's that have left the only one to go to the GWR was the 20 which lived their anyway D9521 went to the dean forest railway along with a VDA van and the small Hunslet shunter if i remember correctly. Im unsure as to whether carl hookings is arranging a deal to keep some of his stock running their or whether it is all moving out but ive had no news on the 115, 117 dmu's

i suspect carl hookings may have made a deal to keep the stock there or he could store them at the est bus depot at cowbridge if theres room.

Any chance of a link to the stuff in the Glamorgan Gazette? Most of us don't live down that way

Nice to know things are happening at Pontycymer, but shame about the VoG. What spurred this on?
