Some three weeks ago I purchased from the local Station office two f.c. rail tickets; one KX-York on 22.12 and the other York-KX on 27.12. I sent the KX-York ticket and reservation to my son in USA to use for his onward journey to Yorkshire after arriving at Heathrow. I used track and trace via Royal Mail postal service but to date it has not arrived. Question - can I be issued with new/duplicate ticket and reservation, although foolishly I did not take a copy of the tickets before posting? Help please ?

You might get lucky if you contact East Coast or Grand Central, but I'm 99% sure that they won't reissue it.

I think you/he will need a new ticket, and then claim compensation from Royal Mail.

I'm not very familiar with Track and Trace, but I assume there is a provision for compensation for lost items, so it would be a case of claiming for the value fo the tickets from them. I'm almost certain East Coast will not take responsibility for their loss when they have been sent overseas.

Compensation will depend on which Royal Mail service you used. There's Airsure and International Signed For.

Both only track within the UK, but Airsure should provide online confirmation of delivery.

With Airsure your compensation entitlement is:
Maximum compensation for loss or damage to an Airsure® item is 100 times the price of a first class stamp (currently £41), unless extra compensation has been purchased. Extra compensation is available up to £500....<snip>

When to claim
We allow 20 working days for items to arrive at European destinations and 25 working days for the rest of the world, so cannot accept a claim until after that time.

With International Signed For your compensation entitlement is generally the same although there are two bands of additional (for a fee) compensation; up to £250 or up to £500. The 'When to claim' is the same also.

Im afraid it will be a new ticket as it was you who chose to post the ticket to another location. The train company has met its obligation to get the ticket to you

Thank you all so much for the replies. What I expected :( Yes I am insured for £41 plus £6 postage from Airsure but thought there might be a chance . . . .:D
