Correct, it isn't the HSTs. The chances of someone (or many people) flushing at the same point every time - almost - is pretty slim!
And, what triggered me to email the paper was getting sprayed when I got off a train on platform 3 but walked along nearer 2 - where a Mallard came through. It was still spraying out, and despite the fact that it was so close to the platform I still got covered.. but at least I already knew what it was.
You can get the same with the train coming from the north and going London bound, as there's a curve there too - and that too would cover both platforms 2/3 and 1 (for all intents and purposes, let's consider 2 & 3 to be one platform as it's a single island).
I had read about the problems a long time ago, and seen the problem myself a long time ago. I've read about industry knowledge of the problem when it was GNER, and it was never taken that seriously by the media because of the fact it only 'affected' rail staff.
However, getting covered the other day pushed me to do something more than rant on a forum. I knew that the 'passenger' factor would likely interest the media more (let's be honest, it is more appealing to a newspaper to talk about a commuter being hit by anything, from s**t to fare increases) and fortunately they were very interested. Indeed, in the paper itself it's mentioned on the front page (with a 'next train on platform poo' headline!).
I got a call this afternoon at work from someone who traced me from my name and job, so I am sure it's going to be mentioned elsewhere in due course.
The good thing is that NXEC acknowledged the problem; now the question is what they're going to do about it. Will they start to empty the tanks regularly or not? The fact is, people will now be fully aware of what is happening - so if it continues, it won't go unnoticed.
