Hope this is okay to post here, mods feel free to move or delete if not.

On this coming Saturday, the final trains to serve the current station at Ravensthorpe will be TPE's 1P93 on the Down (2140 Manchester Airport to York, calling at 2253) and Northern's 2J84 on the Up (2247 Leeds to Huddersfield, calling at 2309). I'll (touch wood) be on both from and back to Mirfield, and if my cack-handedness doesn't raise its head I'll be making a mini vlog type video to mark the occasion. Is anyone else planning to be there for the closure of this rather neglected and under-used station?

Incidentally, Ravensthorpe station can be seen briefly in the BBC Play For Today "Kisses at Fifty" with its full complement of buildings.

The play starred Bill Maynard (of Heartbeat fame).

It always surprised me that the station didn't fall under the Beeching axe, considering the competition from buses which serve the centre of population much better. Perhaps there was a good amount of inward commuting to the local industries including the power station?

It is a bit of an odd one, although I did use it once to see a rugby league match nearby.

Just got back to Mirfield on 2J84, the last service from Ravensthorpe. 150008 did the honours. Quite a few other cranks marking the occasion, my friend (not even much of an enthusiast!) has the minor honour of being the final passenger to board a train at the station.
A bit of a panic earlier, as 1P93 (run with 185115) was 10 minutes late into Mirfield. Luckily it just meant less time freezing on Ravensthorpe's rather desolate platforms!
