Ravensthorpe only on Leeds line

Why doesn’t Ravensthorpe station also have platforms for the Wakefield line?

I don't know, but I think the platforms are moving to the west of the junction in the rebuild.

Historical reasons? Ravensthorpe is on the former LNWR line, while the other line is Lancashire & Yorkshire. The L&Y did have a Ravensthorpe station, on the route between Heckmondwike and Thornhill.

I suppose as well that a train at a platform towards Wakefield would also hold up anything coming up behind. That won't be a problem with the new Ravensthorpe station as it will be on separate tracks to the fast lines.

The new station will be built to serve both lines, think it’s due for completion in 2028

Ravensthorpe itself was something of a 'new town' in it's day (it was originally called Newtown) and sprang up quite quickly after the textile boom turned the area from being primarily known for mining and agriculture to woollens. As a result it's station on the main line was a relatively late addition 42 years after the line; there wasn't even a road, let alone a bridge over the Calder.

The L&Y already had a station just 3/4 of a mile away at Thornhill, and not much further away was their own Ravensthorpe station on the Spen Valley line, which wasn't much more remote from the centre of Ravensthorpe than the LNW one, which is still a bit on the remote side really.
