Rather concerned for safety - Level-headed advice sought...

Hail all!
I'm now starting to become rather concerned and worried after watching the news earlier this evening and finding - As part of the report on the nursery nurse from Plymouth who has been charged with making indecent images of children - That her offences came to light after a 38 year old from near Manchester was raided, arrested and charged with possession of images of the same dispicable nature.

Now the man in question - From Littleborough, near Rochdale - Happens to have exactly the same first and last name that I do, and I'm now concerned about what might happen if people get me mixed up with this other individual...Especially after the person's name was announced on BBC national news earlier this evening! hock: :?

Now I know exactly the kind of things that I would be very tempted to do if I got my hands on a proven child abuser, and none of those things are fit to be repeated here...So I can well imagine what could easily happen to me if people got me mixed up with this other bloke. hock:

So...What I'd like to know/need to know is:

1. Are my concerns/fears rational ones, or am I going off on a rather superlative tangent again?
2. If those concerns are rational, then what kind of measures should I take to ensure my own safety and prevent people getting me mixed up with someone who shouldn't even be allowed in the community?
3. If the commonality in name between myself and this other person causes issues for myself or my property, do I have any form of legal redress against this other person for the trouble and/or injuries that I'd suffer as a result of the offences he'd committed under MY name?
   (If not, then that's proof that the legal system of this country is more stuffed than the Turkey I had last Yule! :roll:)

I dont know i suppose if you do start to have trouble from the neighbours or people in the street then i suppose you could go to the local newspaper to tell them that your not.

If you do get harrassed by a small group of people or a person then you can go to court sue them and maybe get an injunction against them or something.

I'd say it is unlikely much will happen to you Death. People who live near you will know you have lived there for a while and people from further away won't know where to look. Plus you are a scary looking mother******, I wouldn't go anywhere near you! :P

Similar cases have occurred here too, so its not the first time this has happened. So your concerns are rational. A few things you could do is:

Keep a low profile for a few days

Go to your local Police station and tell them the situation, even if it looks like nothing has been done, at least they know and if anything kicks off they know what to do.

Talk to your solicitor and find out what they can do for you.

Talk to your neighbors, they will know its only a coincidence so they will be able to support you and keep an eye out for any trouble.

But generally mobs of people wielding pitchforks and torches are not going to randomly gather out the front of your house demanding blood, there are probably many other people with the same name, so you are probably not alone.

But be safe, don't go round telling people your name, if they don't know then they can't put a connection, depending on the name of course, shorten it where you can if you meet people.

Seriously, are you 38 years old and live near Manchester...? Even if you have a similar name the chances of anything happening to you are slim. I can understand your concern, but I really think you're worrying about nothing. I wouldn't do anything different or start making contact with the Police/press/legal profession at this stage unless something actually happens.

I would say that the only thing you have to worry about is a bit of urine extraction from your friends. I would imagine that there are a few more people who share the same name combination and fit the description a lot closer than you do.

There have been cases like this I think, where tabloid newspapers have published names of offenders and people with the same or similar names have been attacked - but that's tabloid readers for you.

I'd act entirely normally and if you have any trouble - speak to the police.
