Can anyone advise if any Kings Cross-Glasgow Central or Euston-Glasgow Central services are booked via either Cathcart or Kings Park? Also, do these services ever reverse at Shields Junction or Muirhouse South Junction?

There hasn't been a regular passenger service Clitheroe-Hellifield since the 1960s. It reopened Blackburn-Clitheroe in the 80s, and the track remains beyond for regular freight, and the Summer Wednesday steam Fellsman trains. :D

The only booked passenger trains over the Clitheroe-Hellifield section are the summer Dales Rails trains that work Blackpool North-Carlisle. Two return workings a day during the high summer months with just the one return trip over the Easter period. Other then that its charters (like the Fellsman), diversions and freight trains.

My other odd ball working is the only Chiltern train booked out of London Paddington. The monday-friday 11:36 departure to High Wycombe. It use to continue to Princes Risborough but on longer does and there use to be an inbound working as well to provide a unit for the outward service. The only booked Chiltern train into Paddington now arrives at 02:00 in the morning from Banbury.

So I take it the Chiltern unit just works in empty from depot form the departing service with there being no inbound working anymore?

When I traveled on this train last year it was 165018 departing from the very far platform of Paddington, next to the LUL platforms. It did seem a little lost there.

0640 Great Yarmouth to London Liverpool Street Mondays to Fridays. Somebody may correct me but I think it's run by a 170. Never see any photos of it.

I'm guessing it's a 170, according to the timetable there's no First Class, buffet car or trolly. I've been on it before and I can honestly not remember what ran it, I think I'd remember if it was a Class 90 being dragged.

It's a shame there aren't more direct services during the week, there used to be 2 in the morning and 2 in the evening in about 2005 (iirc which I might not) but they got cut and more direct services to Lowestoft via the East Suffolk line were introduced.

According to the EC booking engine it has First Class, but the NXEA leaflet just says reservations recommended. It's definitely not a "drag" nowadays, but I think as you say, it did used to be.

It's probably a 170, they have a little First Class compartment. It's not going to be a 156 or a 317 and it's certainly not a drag. The leaflet I was looking at is the local Great Yarmouth one so the only way I know it's direct is that the arrival in London isn't italicised, perhaps on the mainline timetable it's got 1st class symbols.

I do have a picture of an Arriva 158 taken at Clapham Junction of which I don't know the date but suspect was taken some time in 2004 working a service from somewhere via Bristol into Waterloo (before the Bristol - Waterloo leg was given to SWT).

The West Wales - Waterloo trains were the only trains not scheduled to call at Salisbury.

I believe Wales and West used to run a daily train from Portsmouth Harbour avoiding Newport to points north, like Manchester Piccadilly and Liverpool.

One odd working today is the 17:02 from Worcester Foregate Street to Southampton Central which is formed of two 153s. The train runs via Gloucester and the Golden Valley Line to Swindon, and is the only train that runs from Swindon to Westbury via Melksham. At Westbury the front or rear 153 is detached and the train continues to Southampton Central arriving at 20:48

It's probably a 170.

It Is a 170, diagram NC606.
Unit comes from GTY and works the 0730 up from Norwich and joins at Ipswich with 0644 from Lowestoft (NC603) at Ipswich.
603 works 0938 to LWT and 606 unit then works 1038 to PBO from London.

In the event of unit shortages, this is a planned change, a 15x would work GTY-NRW then terminate with the service from Lowestoft running from Ipswich to London as 3 -car only, and a 321 working the 1038 to IPS

All change in December of course when all these services are confined to the great Timetable in the sky

One of the rare ones on the Tyne and Wear Metro is going on the avoider around the Gosforth depot due to engineering. A plan was also put forward to have normal trains doing this, so people could go from the coast to the Airport without having to change at South Gosforth. Also another rare one could be the Manors stock curve, but AFAIK this has only been used a handful of times for passengers, one of which was a enthusiast special working.

I remember going on a special Metro tour several years ago that ran to/from old Jesmond station and, if my memory serves me right, went to the siding at Regent Centre, then depot avoiding line through to Benton sidings, then back to old Jesmond station. I think they were doing a few runs of the same tour on a single day.

I dont see why not, these are summer additionals so not shown in the Dec 10 TT

Far from confirmed in the current format.

Presume you have seen a pre-release copy of the TT? A jolly at Pontins a few weeks ago perhaps... Hope you like your new morning through service to Colchester from Sudbury though :D

The last remnant of The European is binned though :(

That sounds about right, I have a picture somewhere from the internet that shows a Metro at the old New Bridge Street sidings. The caption said it was a enthusiast working.

I'm looking at the wikipedia page for Chiltern Railways and it states:

In addition, Chiltern Railways runs one train a day from London Paddington to keep traincrew route knowledge up-to-date, as the route is regularly used for diversions during periods of engineering work, one train a day from Birmingham Snow Hill to Oxford, and a single train per week from Stratford to Oxford.

What trains are these then, does anyone have any times for them or when they actually run?

Think its about 1100 off Padd to Gerrards Cross, theres one to get the set to Padd and thats off Bicester N. It goes Padd-Ealing B-Greenford-ruislip (next to LUL lines) and up to Denham etc :D I'll find out for you. i think the rolling stock is the Chiltern trains that aren't clubmans 9hope that helps - sorry I dont do rolling stock!) :D
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---

Can't remember exactly when the Oxford service is, but it's late at night.

The inbound working for the Paddington - High Wycombe service is ECS.

Not sure how relevant this is, but I think there's an EMT 158 booked for an early morning Norwich - Great Yarmouth and return. I wish I knew why!
