Being at someone’s beckon call, you would be looking at 100k.

We used to lodge at intermodal up to 2 days a week, and having a young family at the time, can put pressure on your partners if your not there.

Looking at this job, you would need to see how long you could be posted away for, as this could affect your family massively, especially if it could be weeks at a time. What you need to pay out etc etc when your away.

Living in a hotel room from week to week, the novelty will soon wear off. It can be lonely, especially day in and day out.

Like some else said, most TOC’s will not be off this Salary anyway, with a few RD’s and Sundays, especially London depots.

It’s only 13k different to mine. Time you pay out 40% tax, NI and pension on the 13k, is it really worth it, but that’s just my opinion.

This job would suit someone who’s either single and living at home, if you don’t like your partner, or your saving up. For the regular family driver, be careful in what you choose.

There are good points.

You would learn a lot from being a freight driver. My driver managers have no knowledge on SLW, T3’s, ESW etc etc, only by reading it out of the rule book, so interesting on a rules day.

You could have a variety of routes, driving Intermodal trains one day, then a 3000 ton stone to the West Country the next. Saying that, possessions are not great, especially 23:59 starts, that’s pending your depots.

I think it’s good job for the free and single, but be careful what you choose if you have a family.

If I was 21 again, I would bang it out for a few years, possibly more, order myself a McLaren!!!! and get myself on the property ladder, and move on.

Yeah I agree im 21 and starting on freight soon, those points were something to consider and they were echoed by someone else. I don't have anyone really relying on me but it was something to consider at the time.
