Julie Bindel said:
At least every other time a ticket inspector boards a train or bus I’m on, I pretend I can’t find my ticket or Oyster card. I then miraculously find it at the very last second before my stop. Why? Pure revenge. I hate this nasty group of sadistic jobsworths and, having been stung by them myself, take great pleasure in distracting them for long enough to allow those who are fare dodging to get away without being spotted.

The smugness of ticket inspectors becomes unbearable in the face of the chronically bad service on London transport. My blood boils when I spot a bank of uniformed inspectors, flanked by police officers, when disembarking a train so overcrowded that your kidneys have been pushed up to your throat and your DNA merged with at least half the carriage.
Poor Julie! Perhaps she thought being a supporter of the free market entitled her to be a free rider too. I wonder if she'll turn up on here? :D

In the 'article' she says "And I will now be appearing in court to defend my position. I will, of course, keep you posted on the outcome."

Does anyone know if Flamingo got his popcorn machine working, or should I bring my own?

Such an over-reaction.

Still, if you are struggling to fill your column with something really interesting, knocking out a quick rant and using a whole bunch of stereotypes at an 'easy target' group where you'll get some quick sympathy from the readership is the clear way to go!

I hope she''ll be quicker to defend other 'easy target' groups from similar stereotypical comments!

On 'twitter' Ms Bindel describes herself thus:
'Journalist, feminist activist, ... Lezzer' (Her description not mine!)

I totally agree with you. This sounds like the kind of "quick, deadline approaching, how can I knock out a few hundred words of outrage... dunno... time to dust down some cliches about Little Hitlers and fussy bureaucrats... will this do?".

I'm sure that if this schoolgirl whinge had been published on a more left-leaning publication (rather than one which Boris Johnson edited), the Spectator would be outraged at the lack of morals - "FARE EVASION IS A SIGN OF BROKEN BRITAIN" / "THESE ****LESS TICKET DODGERS HAVE NO RESPECT FOR THE LAW" etc etc.

It's funny how some people insist that we respect the rule of law, until they become inconvenienced by having to respect those same rules themselves (like having a valid ticket).

In a world of clickbait, the once-sober world of columnists seems to be a hysterical "LOOK AT ME" environment where the more outraged you sound, the more clicks you get, this kind of nonsense will probably become more typical (sadly).

I hate the term "jobsworth". It now seems to be used as a term of abuse to any public servant who happens to be doing their job properly.

No, but that is her IQ!

I see she managed to get all the normal stereotyping in the article, it must have taken all of 5 minutes to write.

I don't think I've ever met a 12 year old as cynical and incredibly bitter as she comes across!

She comes across as an idiot to me who is seeking attention and trying to look smart yet failing.

To be fair, most of the comments below were criticising her.

I got to line 5 and got bored. Yawn!

Well, I wonder if we'll get her on here asking about how to get an out-of-court settlement?

There's an opinion that her articles are supposed to be satirical but just aren't any good.

Ah, good old Julie Bindel. She's just another lesbian Polly Filla, I'd ignore her. Everyone else does.

I don't think the fact that she is a "lezzer" (in her words) is relevant. I'm sure she would be just as unpleasant and unreadable if she was straight!

In the mean time, perhaps it would be an idea to ban all cars from central London and make public transport free and frequent? Those millions of ticket inspectors and their police allies could be assigned to rooting out rich tax evaders instead? Ken Dodd and Lester Piggott deserve them more than I do.

Not sure if she's being serious, but if she is... god help her.

Ah, Julie Bindel. I took out one of her books from the library, expecting it to be a gentle discourse over the history of gay rights from the blurb, but it read eerily like it was ghostwritten by Garth Marenghi, with hyperbole, loosely construed statistics, and a constant focus on her personal life.

This is also the same bat who claimed transwoman only undergo gender-reassignment surgery in order to be able to masturbate in women-only spaces. So she's obviously a lovely, sensitive, nurturing soul.

Is she a bit of a heart bleeding liberal?
Nah, she's just a tool.

Anyone know if her blog would be useful evidence for the prosecution in her court case?
