Weird dreams hey... I have a few.

All my dreams are connected in the fact they are in the same country of an alternative Britain. They share features which are seen in other dreams.

Alternative Britain

This is one of those recurring dreams which I've had many times from about the age of 6. It's not a nightmare... usually. Effectively the dream comprises of a slightly different version of Britain: the main differences are in the motorway and road networks. For example the whole of Droitwich is a different layout however it is the same every time and I know it perfectly. The A38 then joins the M5 and then the M50 which in the dream heads SE in stead of west. Other oddities include an M91 in the Northernmost reaches of Scotland, East anglia is broken into islands and London is different too - including the underground. In this dream there are even atlases which I look at and see this new network of transport. It wasn't just restricted to road and tube, railways were also changed and Droitwich had 5 lines running to it and Birmingham Snow Hill was on a line that left the New St line after University - Birmingham had a much larger railway network in my dream and most lines were electrified. was a terminal stationGiven the chance I could map out this whole country, accurately - I made a map of the motorway network when I was 9: if I can find it I'll scan it and show you all.

I think this dream is very good, I actually enjoy having it as it's not bad, apart from when they try to build a new housing estate on mine! I suspect it stems from the fact I'm very interested in roads and I drew maps I when I was younger (there's over 150) - I memorised the road network roughly by the age of five. Trust me, I have been on TV 3 times for it. I am what you could say is a human sat-nav for this country - and no I do not come with a selection of foreign voices, though I could have a stab at Spanish or French! :D

The evil M69

This was the one bad part of the dream, which fortunately I do not have anymore. I would be in the car on the way south on the M69 when shortly after J2 the motorway would dive down into a tunnel akin to the Queensway Tunnel in Birmingham but this was with a twist, literally. It just went into pitch black and ended. Luckily one time lights appeared in the tunnel we got out safely; been like that ever since.

New St Remix

In the same world as the alternative Britain scenario, when we arrived at New St we had to negotiate a series of escalators and people regularly walked across the tracks in order to get to the other platform. What was weirder was there was the eclectic mix of rolling stock: Pendolinos, Voyagers, Turbostars, BR Blue 47s and 86s with the odd steam engine. The Pendolinos had three sets of doors on each side and had sleeping compartments.

Star Wars

Another one where I would be in space and it would literally be star wars happening around me. However I controlled all the species and I usually watched from above the planet/asteroid. The dream never finished as it was so long I woke up before I found out what happened.

Wierd hey. I have loads of others but it would just take to long to explain. I've only just scraped the surface with this :D

For some reason, I had a dream once about being forced to watch a terrible American cartoon adventure series, where they ended every episode on a cliffhanger, but gave away the resolution in the episode, then solved the problem by some ridiculous deus ex machina. I had to watch episode after episode after episode of this rubbish, and could not stop for some reason.

I also had one about the student cuts demonstrations last October. They happened in November.

I can have dreams that seem very real whilst asleep, but usually are forgotten as soon as I awake, with no recall, with the exception of two.

In the first dream, I was running in a 10,000 metres race, made a breakaway halfway, but kept getting caught then making an effort to move clear. This happened about five times and I was fifth with about 200 metres to go when I made one last effort with strength that seemed to come from nowhere and won the race by the narrowest of margins. I have never competed in any athletics meeting at all in my life.

The second dream concerned a factory in Ashton under Lyne, where the workers were waiting for their wages and bonuses as it was just before Christmas. Something happened with the bank and there was no way that the workers would be paid, so I took a big canvas bag and said that I would take the wages, Don't laugh, but there were buses and trains involved, which were all either late or not running because it was near Christmas (I have no idea why I was not driving) but with 10 minutes to go, I found myself running up a steep hill near the factory with the bag.....then my wife woke me up. I have never forgiven her to this day, as it seemed so real and I was devastated that no-one had their money. My wife still talks about my reaction as a source of utter despondancy and I still feel bad about it, even though it was only a dream.
