Going to see Springsteen at Wembley in a couple of weeks time

We’ve got a hotel in Marylebone. Not used to getting across London these days so a bit out of touch

Journey will be

Day 1

Ramsgate to St Pancras

St Pancras to Marylebone

Marylebone to Wembley Stadium and return

Day 2

Marylebone to St Pancras

St Pancras to Ramsgate

I have an old gits travel card

OH has no travel card

Any thoughts and/or advice on the easiest and cheapest way of doing all this

Presumably we can do contactless for all the London journeys?

Do you have a railcard (this may be relevant)?

And what days of the week are we talking about?

Assuming no railcard you can get an off-peak return from Ramsgate to Wembley Stadium for £57.30 which would cover all of those journeys. So no need to use Contactless or Oyster or get a Travelcard. As long as you're not travelling in the morning peak into or out of St Pancras on a weekday this should be fine and would give you quite a bit of flexibility.

If you just buy a ticket to St Pancras then that might possibly work out cheaper if you can abide by the Super Off-Peak restrictions or if you're willing to be tied down to specific trains to and from St Pancras.

It’s a Thursday and returning to Ramsgate the next day. We’ll be travelling up on the Thursday afternoon and coming back late Friday morning. OH is not an early riser and we will both want breakfast!

Okay, so there's 34% off one of the tickets with your railcard. (One of the benefits of using paper tickets to travel on the tube is you get your railcard discount, which wouldn't be the case if you used Contactless).

There are no evening peak restrictions on that ticket so it should be suitable for your needs. I've assumed you only want to use the tube for one journey from Kings Cross St Pancras to Marylebone (or Baker Street if you'd rather have a shorter tube journey and don't mind a short walk) on the Thursday and a second journey in the opposite direction on the Friday. Your tickets will cover this. Any other tube journeys you want to make, you'd need to pay for.

Yes one tube journey each way - to hotel and back again the next day. Hotel is a five minute walk from Marylebone

Note that the train frequency from Marylebone to Wembley Stadium is not as frequent as the Metropolitan Line from Baker Street to Wembley Park, although it’s normally enhanced for large scale events (Baker Street is less than 5 mins walk from Marylebone).

If for any reason you did end up travelling from Baker Street to Wembley Park then just use contactless, as you ticket to Wembley Stadium won’t be valid to Wembley Park.

*Do check that services are operating at Wembley Stadium on the day of your concert as no services ran on one of the Taylor Swift concert days, due to engineering work on the WCML.

Yes I saw that about Taylor Swift and will check

Assuming they are running we're taking the view that they are very experienced at getting people out of the stadium on to trains - and there will be enough capacity to do that

No problem using Baker Street if necessary

I tend to buy e tickets which - I take it - will work on the various gate lines we will encounter using a straight through ticket

I’d say the walking distance from the High Speed platforms to the Underground at St Pancras is further than from Baker Street to Marylebone!
