I have to confess to being a complete numpty with regard to the Rail Routeing Guide.

I have just booked tickets from Chatham to Bridgend, and Swansea back to Chatham.

These are both "via Slough" as a condition, but there is no comment about HS1.

The East Coast website, from whence I bought the tickets, suggests a routing not via HS1. The NRE website suggests a routing via HS1 which is 7 minutes quicker.

If the tickets do not mention HS1 and NRE says that it's the route, is it OK to use HS1 or not?

The two journeys are on 11 December and 14 December if that makes any difference.

I'd imagine if the ticket says ''any permitted'' and ''not hs1'' then you can.

I myself have bought the Rainham to Ebbsfleet ticket. I probably will ride it again before December but your not missing much its mainly just bumping around in a noisy tunnel.

My only advice is take the information that says about going on HS1 with you, I was told that to go on HS1 from Rainham i should of gone to Bromley North and then get a bus to either Grove Park or Lewisham, when asked why his route was so different to one's i had heard valid Iwas told '' This is my train, so i can set the ticketing rules''. I laughed in his face.

You can no longer buy this ticket online, can you still buy it from national rail stations??
