Railworks3 - Train Simulator 2012 - new question ?

I am thinking of getting Train Simulator 2012 (not 2013), and am wondering if it comes with a lot of default UK diesels and rolling stock and routes?

Its an American company, and I see Train Simulator 2012 on Ebay for a reasonable price. Is there a UK and USA version of the software, or is it all in one big package?

Also, Railworks offer lots of downloads on their website but they charge for them $20 a shot. Are there private users that offer their engine downloads/routes/rolling stock for other people in the community for free?

You can't actually play TS2012 anymore, if you get a hard copy, it will, by default, upgrade to 2013.

Or you can buy premium access and beat the queues. For a new user, this is especially worthwhile as you can pick up much of what you need during a one month subscription.

Just a word of warning about buying from eBay - once the game has been used, it will be activated on someones Steam account, and thus non-transferable. Make sure if you do purchase from eBay that it is a brand new, unused, copy, otherwise you may end up disappointed.

There is a lot of freeware out and about. UKTS has been mentioned, but there are others. As for purchasing from RSC, you are best waiting for a sale to come around, as you can get quite a lot off the add-ons that way (it is what I usually do...don't think I have bought much at full price!)

All one verison for TS2013 no different ones at all. Although the old 'Classic routes' no longer are included and are now sepreate DLC.

For that would recommend looking for TS2012 and let it upgrade for free (You won't get the newly included routes but the latest verison of the software)

They [the routes] will all work as long as you have the DLC needed for that route which should be listed in the description

WCML stands for West Coast Main Line, WCML-N is a route for TS2013 available from Steam

Also a note for locos, a lot of the ones on UKTS are repaints, which often need payware DLC from steam

I wouldn't get the game off eBay, I'd just download it from Steam. It would probably be cheaper too if you wait for one of their sales. The UK route it comes with is London to Brighton.

Another freeware site for DLC is http://www.railworksdepot.co.uk/. They have an East Coast Main Line add on (KGX to Peterborough). The only trouble with that is when I downloaded the previous version it wasn't immediately obvious exactly what other stock you needed to run it, and I had to go running all over the place trying to work out what I needed and where it was to be found.

A lot of it is, but some free routes use scenery from payware routes, for example Creston V4 uses the overhead cantenery from the WCML-N route which is payware. Most payware is well worth the cost, apart from the repaints for £2.99 which can be sometimes downloaded from sites like UKTS

The sound packs can be downloaded from Armstrong Powerhouse which are VERY good! Textures need the model of the loco installed, although a lot of the Class 37 reprints don't use the default model, and the steam class 37 is needed.

As far as I know, no downloadable engines require sound packs, although I'm happy to be corrected

Steam is a program which holds all the games that work on steam, so if you lose your computer through damage of some sort, you can log into it and recover everything you have brought and all the games registered with it. Its great for that, but it's mostly a nightmare when it won't connect

I would suggest buying a brand new copy as the code is non transferable, and will only work with the first account that it is registered with (when I got what was Railworks 2 back in July 2011, I couldn't be bothered to create my own account, so registered it with my younger brothers....... *facepalm* luckily im the only one that uses it for downloads, as football manager isn't really a game you can 'upgrade').

And yes, it will automatically update to TS2013. In fairness, it's a great idea to update existing owners' copies, as I haven't had to fork out £40 every year, unlike my brother

I would suggest buying a brand new copy as the code is non transferable, and will only work with the first account that it is registered with (when I got what was Railworks 2 back in July 2011

Sorry to put a damper on you, but if you BUY from EBAY, Please make sure that it is a sealed copy and not a used copy.
The reason I say this is,,,,
If you buy a used copy, there is a good chance that it has been registered with steam under the original owner of that copy, and will NOT be Transferable to you.
So I surgest that you buy from steam you can download steam from their website for free, and it is free to register with them also. then the copy that you buy from steam will be registered to you and you alone.
Then you will be able to get the updates and any add-ons you wish to buy.
So again be awhere that the copy from ebay might not be an original, and it will most likey will be a used copy.

Might not be relevant to the OP, as they don't seem to be in the UK. However, for anyone else, Game have TS2012 for £4. It's currently out of stock, but they seem to be getting one new copy every couple of days which is then snapped up.
