Railworks 3 announced...

I see from their website that Railworks will be launching Railworks 3 in September. It also seems to be known as Train Simulator 2012.
But what's not clear in their announcement is whether users of Railworks 2 will automatically update, free of charge, like RW 1 did to RW 2, or whether we'll need to buy RW 3 and start again from scratch.

A lot of the content looks to be the same, but the lighting - particularly shadows, appear to be more realistic. One thing I hope is that they've made it so signals on single track don't show 'clear' in both directions like thy do now!

It will automatically update, free of charge, over Steam.

All existing software will be compatible.

Answering my own question, as I looked at the FAQ page - yes, RW 2 will be automatically updated to RW 3.

Not heard this. MSTS 2 is a completely different project. The last I heard about MSTS 2 was it being postponed.

Interesting indeed! Now that im about to upgrade my computer from this pretty new piece of junk to something better, and ditched the nasty and unpleasant world of BVE, i might even consider this as a replacement...Pending any job / apprenticeship news of course!

When RW2 upgrades to RW3 for free (as has been promised) will you still get to keep the routes and scenarios from RW2 or will they be replaced?

And speaking of which, does anyone know any routes that may come with RW3?

Everything in RW2 will be carried over, and will work, in RW3. There will be a new US route - free for people who buy RW3, paid-for for people whose RW2 gets a free upgrade to RW3.

Thanks for the information. I have scene a few shots of the US Route, I think it runs around California.
