I fnally got around to reading this having bought it a couple of years ago. Excellent well reproduced pictures but some of the captions are really disappointing. For someone with a supposedly encyclopaedic knowledge of the local railways Mr Glover makes some poor mistakes. The railway from Altrincham (Deansgate Junction) to Warrington was built by the LNWR not the CLC (p41), Jubilee class locomotives were not subjected to experimental modifications with Caprotti valve gear (p31) and the 9F on the turntable on p39 is at Gowhole Sidings - not New Mills.
The problem is that when you can see clear errors like this you are left doubting anything that you don't know for certain yourself. All too often nowadays it seems that authors are so eager to put detail in captions that they betray their own ignorance (and sometimes in the text of non-pictorial books). This is the fourth time in the last few years that I have read a recently published book and felt ripped off.
