Railway Travelog Books

I once tried looking throuhg the railway books on eBay. and theres billlions of them. old spotting guides, loco guides, guides to every single ancient railway you can imagine. so i gave up searching as I didnt have the time to spare.

so, can anybody recommend any good railway travelog type books? I dont want to read pages and pages of technical details about traction etc. Or listen to somebody ranting on about how things arent what they used to be. I just want to read somebody describing in detail various UK rail journeys, like people sometimes do in blogs when they go on rovers or tours (which all somehow seem to be written by members of CAMRA). anybody got any books they can recommend like this? (with or without the extensive pub references)

I'm sure reading through the Stories, Nostalgia and X (I can't remember what the rest of the section's name is) on here would go some way to sorting that.

Could easily write a book on my travels in the last few years!

some of these are good, but (no offence intended to anyone) most of them are not!

theyre largely amateurish. the same as my own blogs whenever i do a rover trip (tho a few people appreciate my blogs for the insanity and inside jokes).
Does anybody know of any travelogs or guides written by proper professional writers? they must exist, but I need help finding them. maybe theres a railway books website that divides its books neatly into categories? or maybe somebody knows of a specific book, writer, or even niche publisher that fits this description....

This book isn't a list of trainspotters' sightings, but an in-depth account by a non-EWS employee who had a number of cabrides. It's not really even a pro-EWS book; more a factual account about the journeys, the crews, their duties etc. I am not into books by any stretch of the imagination, but I make an exception when it comes to 'Coming up with the Goods'.

OK, Im sorry, but I have to bump this thread and ask if anybody else has any suggestions.
Read "Parallel Lines", and really enjoyed it, although I did get occasionally annoyed with the authors constant harping on about how everything that was wrong with the railways today was due to privatisation. But apart from that, a great book. Next Im going to read "Coming up with the Goods".

And when thats done I need another book.
Suggestions please!!!!
