For a while now and inspired by the photo of the class 24 on Hemerdon on another thread I’ve wondered who crewed test trains?
I doubt anyone in the WOE signed 24s in 1976 but equally who at Derby signed the 17,23,24,28 and 41s to work test trains. Was there a pool of drivers who went anywhere with the traction but were route conducted by local crews.
Likewise with Old Dalby and Mickleover, did RTC have their own drivers and guards?

I suppose I could ask a similar question about pre-heating locos, did drivers have to learn the class 15s to be able to run them up for ETH supply?
