Railway Porter-WWI-Where To Find Records

[HUNTER1940]

Good Afternoon

Please could someone tell me where to look for railway company occupational records for my grandfather who was a railway porter pre/during WWI?

(I've had no luck so far on Ancestry).

I presume he worked at Banbury Railway Station but this may not be the case.

Many thanks.

The National Archives have a lot of records and there is a guide to researching them on their website.

There coverage is patchy though. I had no luck with the ancestor I was looking for recently.

Try the 'Search Engine' at the National Railway Museum at York. I recall part of their website http://www.nrm.org.uk deals with records of railway workers.

Many of the pre grouping railways had their own staff magazines and frequently contained references to promotions and obituaries etc. It might be worth hunting for a source of GWR magazines.
