Some of you must also have visited the national french railway museum in Mulhouse, which I did back in 2013. Its a must see for all other train nerds, and the only thing missing is a full size TGV, since they are all in use.

I can highly recommend it, if you happen do be within a fair distance during vacation. If you are into cars as well, then the worlds largest car museum is just around the corner.

Perhaps I should post some of the pictures I took from the railway museum, but they must have been taken a zillion times before, and therefore easy to find. ;)

I did wonder what was worth seeing in Mulhouse when I flew to Basel/Mulhouse years ago but stayed in Basel, a city with an SNCF station at 1 end of the St. & a Deutsche Bahn Station at the other end.

I know a few Everton fans that flew to there last week for the game in Berne & a lot were staying in Mulhouse because it saved considerably on cost, they could also fly back the same night as well due to the airport being in France.

Not a bad place for a city break really with those things in Mulhouse to see as well as Basel, wonder if theres anything of interest in Freiburg ?

There's a few available now given that 44 of the TGV-SE and 3 of the TGV-A have been withdrawn; do any plans exist to preserve any of the TGV stock at all? At the very least they should surely have an SE power car + the first trailer; don't put an accomodation bogie on the outer end if they do - they should leave it on the articulated one so that people can see how they are mounted with one half then being visible.

I live about an hour away on the German side. Been to the museum twice. Well worth a visit. Even has a display of a locomotive been derailed by French resistance in World War 2. I am glad I saw this post. It has given me the idea to go again.

Now has a TGV... well, one power car at least. No trailer.

http://france3-regions.francetvinfo...e-motrice-tgv-prete-pour-le-musee-659621.html

Toy trains... or rather a TGV. This one is in the vivd orange that those of us who are under twenty surely don't recognise. It's a power car from the 80s that has been completely restored and presented to the press this week at the SNCF depot in Bischeim.

After a year of work costing 300,000 euros, it could well go back to covering millions of kilometers at 270 km/h like it used to. But this locomotive is taking a different line, that which leads directly to the Cité du Train museum at Mulhouse, where it will soon be exhibited to enthusiasts' delight.
