One of my favourite books to look through is the OPC Rail Atlas. A little out of date, but it shows most of the current rail network, including all the private and steam lines still in operation, plus frieght lines. I also have a reprint of a 1955 rail atlas, showing all the lines that existed just prior to the Beeching cuts. And my father has one from the 1920s, which has lots of differences from the 1955 version, as there were many lines opened and closed in between those years.
But its awkward having to look through 3 different books. Does anyone know of a book (or website even) that shows ALL the lines that have ever existed in the UK?
