Hello there,

Lizzy0.jpg

This naughty lady is trespassing on the railway - anyone got any idea where though?

Cheers.

Could be anywhere that, no real distinguishing features that I can see.

Do you have a link to the website it came off? There may be location clues in any other related pictures.

No idea but the track on the right of the picture doesn't seem to have been used for some time, where as the track she is standing in the middle of looks active. (ive surmised thsi from the rust.

Can't read the link - it's too small to resolve it! Having said that, if it's from that kind of website then I think I will not investigate further in this instance!

Bl-dy h-ll, this really is a rail enthusiast site, where else would a scantily-ish clad and provocatively posing woman raise (so to say ;)) only interest in the precise location of the photoshoot (preferably in milepost reading and the Quail Diagram page number included)... :D

Quite the opposite. The running line opposite has clearly recently been relaid, using steel sleepered track (which looks rusty when new), as is belaid by the new ballast. Steel sleepered track is quite a recent development for track renewals in the UK.

As to the precise location, let's deduce a few truths from the picture: Looking at the quality of the track and the sweeping alignment of the curve, it's a main line or primary trunk route. There's no overhead line, so it's on a major line that has never benefitted from electrification. And looking at the type of trees and foliage aong the cutting, I'd think it's somewhere in central England. The cutting has been dug out at a shallow angle, which suggests that the countryside in the area is fairly flat with few major changes in topography that mean that few earthworks were required along the route, as well as suggesting that the type of soil in that area is soft and easy to work. So all in all, I'd think that the line is somewhere in a belt running roughly east to west through Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and into Gloucestershire.

So at a complete guess, Midland Main line, Chiltern main line or the Worcester to Gloucester line.

The angle of the shadows in the trees suggests the Sun is very high and the leaves have lost their fresh bright green for the darker shade they develop, but are still not fully dark green and the trees to the left still have not become fully leaved, therefore the picture was taken around midday in the early summer - say about May.

From that we can deduce the direction of the track at this location; the camera appears to be facing south south west.

This is developing well, glad to see some debate. As well as the mileage and Quail Map, perhaps we could get the Sectional Appendix and Hazard Directory extracts for the location....

I thought the structure on the left of the picture must be the guard rail on a footpath crossing or an access point.

It looks to me like it’s an access point for track workers and engineers to reach the track. This suggests that there may be a road overbridge immediately behind the photographer, as these entrance points are regularly located near somewhere with road access for obvious reasons.

This is all complete guesswork of course.

Ok, further clues.

The model 'Lizzy' hails from Blackpool.

The photographer 'Sean Richards' is based in Dorset.

Could be the location is near either of those spots.

I can't find an email addy for Sean otherwise I'd ask him! He'd probably find this amusing....

Can you put up a Google Maps link centered on the spot? Not ideal being vertically down, but should be good enough to prove it....

Even Better:

From Google Street View:

PBN 10m9ch Cutting View.JPG

The Access Steps Showing the Handrail:

Access Steps Into Cuttin.JPG

Overhead View - the track drainage manhole cover behind Lizzy in the original photo is clearly visible

PBN Cutting Overhead View.JPG

The Location (if this is right) is therefore Church Road Overbridge. Near Great Plumpton, Preston.

I feel a bit sad. must get out more often.....

Can anyone explain to me why the numpty who took this photo thought that being on an active line improved his shot? Not something we should be encouraging, methinks.

Of course we shouldn't encourage it - but we have just proved that people cannot get away with it even in seemingly unidentifiable locations because this forum is populated with Sherlocks who can very quickly identify where the trespass took place...!!

Meanwhile, I see I managed to type "south west" instead of "north west" a few days ago... d'oh!

Anyone informed NR about this. This line in question is quite busy and they couldnt have had very long between trains. The railway is designed for running trains on, not staging fashion shoots.
