We have a thread on predictions for 2026. How about one on hopes for 2026. You can be as modest or grandiose as you like.

Mine are:

- Normanton gets some beacon thingys to enable longer TPE's to stop.

- Now that there's an additional proper fast service between Leeds and Sheffield, Normy finally gets an all day half-hourly service to Leeds.

- Carlisle station buffet reopens.

- LNER brings back off-peak.

- Faced with popularity issues, the Government decides to confront the cost of living crisis by introducing a National railcard scheme.

The TfW Mk4s and 67s (7 sets) can complete their planned 5 diagrams more weekdays than they don't. (1 for 1 failure so far)

Completely outlandish: TfW order some more 197s so the fleet is large enough to cover the booked work and the failures of the microfleets

Completely off the scale outlandish: TfW commission a new depot for the 197s as it is clear Chester cannot cope with a fleet much larger than the 175s that were maintained there (even after the Cambrian set get sent to their new home)

The Brighton Belle set finally gets comissoned into passenger service.

And is promptly comandered for use by Southern on the Brighton line :D

  • WCRC finally realise they aren't going to win against the ORR, and start fitting their Mk1 rakes with CDL.
  • XC and the RMT finally bow to public/government pressure and come up with an agreement allowing double Voyagers to run with only one TM.
    • As a sweetener to get the agreement, the DfT allows the remaining ex-Avanti 221s to be cascaded to XC so that all but the quietest services are double sets.
  • The DfT/ORR finally lays down a rule that all new rolling stock purchases must support level boarding 'out of the box' and starts a programme of upgrading platforms to support it.
