A clue is that it's more to do with the Marston Vale, Waterloo & City, and Borderlands lines than with the stations, and which also applies to the Island Line.

Prior to the opening of the Forth Bridge, a train ferry service operated between Granton, in Edinburgh, and Burntisland. Between which two towns did another train ferry service operate prior to the opening of the Tay Bridge....and again between the collapse of the first bridge and the opening of the second one?
