I believe the first railway to cross what wes then an international border was between Tourcoing and Mouscron.
However the railway between Linz and Ceske Budejovice crosses a border these days but was entirely within the Austro Hungarian empire when it opened.

No guesses for several weeks. Can we draw a line under this one?

Yes; open floor. The answer I was looking for was the line between Magdeburg and Halle / Leipzig in Anhalt, Prussia and Saxony, which opened in summer 1840.

I'll take the floor...

How many Class 30 diesel locomotives were built?

I'll accept +/-5.

I'm not sure if all class 31 were originally built as class 30s before been reengined. If so 263.
Spot on! Yes, they were all built as Class 30, with the engine replacement commencing a few years after the last entered service.

You may take control of the toffee apple shaped handle...
