I am guessing that these are the numbers of letters in station names. So for example:

London _____(8) = London Victoria (or London Waterloo)
London _____(6) = London Euston (or London Bridge)
London _____(10) = London Paddington (or London Marylebone)
London _____(9,6) = London Fenchurch Street (or London Liverpool Street)
______(5) = Derby (or Frome)
______(7,7) = Bristol Parkway
_______(7) = Reading (or Watford or Woking)
_____(10,10) = Manchester Piccadilly
_____(10,3,6) = Birmingham New Street

But do they link together in a journey? It's getting late and my brain is foggy!!

That's nine of the fifteen correct.

The link would appear that they are all stations directly managed by Network Rail.

Three others might be Edinburgh (Waverley), Guildford and Glasgow Central.

Congratulations to @DerekC who got the most right answers. Stratford was the last station with more than twelve platforms in use I was looking for.

60073 St Gatien and 60074 Harvester were two of Gresley's A3 class. So far, so good. They were linked together via their names in a very unusual way. What was that link?

St Gatien was one of the horses that dead heated in the Derby in about 1880. Was Harvester the other?
