Libya (3 times the area of Afghanistan) is correct.
The last trains ran in 1965.
Whether plans to open some railways come to fruition is anyone's guess.
However for you to open the next question.

Thanks -- something of a blind guess ! Having the wonderful referred-to-above book; can't resist nicking questions out of it.

On what date was Australia's through 4-ft-8-and-a-half inch gauge route Sydney -- Perth completed, with the conversion of the hitherto 3ft. 6in. Broken Hill -- Port Pirie section? I'm not a sadist -- the year will do.

To paraphrase Mr. Tolkien: both of you gentlemen hit near or near-ish; but not in the gold.

You're right there, sport -- Nov. 29th of that year, to be pedantically accurate.

Bonzer answer -- get us a round of Foster's, and set the next question.

Well it wasn't Sir Brian Robertson or Sir Stanley Raymond....they were obviously knights. I'm struggling to think of any other chairmen. May we be allowed a small clue perhaps?

Alright then. One, perhaps the most (in)famous one has been named already.
The other died about four years ago.
