The station was built partly over the 'village lake' ( aiui a pond does not have an inlet and outlet, whereas a lake does) as there was a brook. entering and leaving the pond it is a lake albeit a small one!! The brook then ran under the 'northern' platform to join up with a river to its east, which then entered the Thames.

On a Suburban branch line of 3.7 miles that had this and the terminal station north of it
It branched off at a station that has recently closed and been replaced by one 100yds further south This'junction; station has been renamed three times! the first name being the area and then to two throughfares nearby. the original name which was transferred to the station in question However a prefix and suffix was added to it when the new station approx 100yds away was opened in the late 18th century and to differentiate between it and the new station which took its name.. However the station in question by law still ran Workmans trains . The goods yard was built early last century. So we have a station name used on three different locations! and the current location has also had a name change in the last 10yrs?
although the original name is stil extant but with a location suffix.... hope that makes sense


Ahh...... the 'southern ' platform was built to allow the level crossing that trains had to cross to reach the original platform, to stay open longer for road traffic,although there was a deviation thar carried the original road over the railway built later, possibly for the horse trams that were introduced in the 1880s.
