In addition to 3 to 5, the three Hawthorn Leslie locos that passed to the SR and BR, it owned two locos taken over from the East Cornwall Mineral Railway. 1 was probably scrapped early on, never having been converted from 3’6” gauge, while 2 was converted, but sold to Colonel Stephens after a few years.Five

Well it’s been 24 hours so here’s a clue. Referring to Cowleys post above one of the letters refers to why that particular loco shut down.
Mr Cowley,you have 4 out of 5. The O is not oil. There’s another O why your loco would shut down. All 5 needed for the correct answer.Water

Well,yes I’ll give you that one. Not as in the speed you are travelling but the engine Overspeed device. When the engines RPM exceed it’s safe set limit it trips shutting the engine down.Overspeeding?
