Kyösti Kylälä developed an improved exhaust system for steam locomotive boilers. He patented it in the UK. On which class of locomotive was it trialled?

No. Chapelon used Kylälä's ideas in developing the Kylchap but Kylälä's own system was trialled on a UK locomotive.

Afraid not....but that was one of the sections eventually so-equipped in the 'production' roll-out as it were. The 'prototype' installation was on another line entirely.

I'm afraid not....that line was equipped with the Western Region version of Tokenless Block, which had/has block instruments in the station buildings where appropriate, to allow the signaller to undertake station and ticket issuing duties as well. I did specify "Scottish Region Tokenless Block".
Sorry....not that one either.

It's an ex North British Railway - and later LNER - section of line with four stations connected by three single line sections. The ScRTB installation was superceded in 1988 by RETB, having been in use since 1964. The system provided for the two intermediate stations to have a bi-directional main line and a unidirectional loop - which allowed the block posts concerned to be switched-out when not required for crossing trains, thus permitting considerable staff savings. That facility is no longer provided - or needed - under RETB.

The correct answer was given in post #11,781: The first, experimental installation of ScR tokenless block was between Usan and Montrose (South) on 12 December 1965.
The next was a portion of the West Highland Line between Crianlarich and Rannoch, in July/August 1967. There were three intermediate crossing loops with signal boxes that could switch out (Tyndrum Upper, Bridge of Orchy and Gorton). This tokenless block installation was superseded by electric token block (key tokens) in August 1985, almost three years before RETB was introduced.

Oh well....looks like I got it wrong. Sorry folks! My answer was Crianlarich-Rannoch, but if @Railsigns is correct, then @Gloster - an ex-signaller, I believe, has 'Line Clear'.
