Ok - time for a clue. What was started at Kibblesworth was brought to a conclusion in May 1862, with William Gladstone in attendance, in an event which had had echoes all around the world.

The Metropolitan Railway dug a short test tunnel at Kibblesworth in 1855 in order to test digging, shoring and cut-and-cover techniques.

In May 1862, the first section of the Metropolitan railway in London was opened in the presence of W. E. Gladstone MP.

How many NBL class 21 diesel-electric locos were rebuilt with Paxman Ventura engines?....and how many of them were fitted with roller blind headcode panels. (There's a slight catch here....so beware).

I have a feeling that the answer to the second is ‘...and a half’ (due to accident damage to one end?). But what and a half I do not know.

20 converted and 19 fitted with roller blinds on conversion.

Is the catch that D6123 (the first converted and not fitted with rollers) subsequently had rollers fitted?

That is correct. The catch is that a twentieth loco (D6109) was fitted with fitted with roller blinds....but not re-engined and therefore remained as a class 21 instead of becoming a 29. The dirty, oily floor of Fort William depot is all yours!

Since no new question has been set for over a week, I think we should declare open floor.

Where, in about 1918, could you have seen locomotives built for the Stratford & Midland Junction, Rhymney and London & South Western Railways all working from one shed on a branch from yet another railway, nothing to do with the previous three.
